How Authentication Works

The Equinox API uses two tokens. You only need to take action when the refresh token expires.
Refresh Token Weeks / months
The master key that generates access tokens. Lasts weeks to months.
Stored at ~/.equinox_refresh_token on your machine.
The dashboard checks it every hour. When it eventually expires, the dot turns red.
Access Token 90 min, auto-renews
Short-lived token used for every API call. Generated automatically from the refresh token.
The countdown on the dashboard shows its remaining life. When it hits zero, a new one is generated instantly and silently. You never need to do anything.
If the dot turns red
Just click the "Login" button and enter your Equinox email and password. A new refresh token will be generated automatically — no mitmproxy, no phone, no proxy setup needed.
Your password is never stored. It's sent directly to Equinox's Auth0 server over HTTPS.
